The following has previously been posted publicly but is useful for consideration as an example and to keep the dialogue open and balanced.
Claims that doctors and researches do not accept or diagnose Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, or that it is inaccurate or that there's no evidence of inflammation are not true and simply red herrings.
There is no need to rename Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or offer an option while keeping CFS or attaching ME to it. This will not help gain acceptance or recognition of anything.

Myalgic Encephalitis as used by Dr. Melvin Ramsay was not acceptable to purists who complained that the brain is not affected or inflamed. Well I am not so sure. Certain symptoms can be related to the hippo campus and basal ganglia. The Canadian definition delineates inflamation and pathology in various sites, cardiac, thyroid etc. The "brain fog" by definition is a cognitive problem centred in the brain. We seem to be faced with a "not invented here" problem. CFS/ME was not discovered in Incline village Why do we need another name? Get rid of chronic fatigue syndrome and accept Ramsay's term, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, do not look for the kudos of inventing a new term. Derek Enlander MD New York |
